OUR EMERGING PROPOSALS

Pattern.png

There are three key elements to our emerging proposals for the site.

INDEPENDENT LIVING FOR OLDER PEOPLE

We are proposing to create a 60 bedroom ‘Independent Living’ complex. Independent living is an extra care housing option for people aged 55+ and with a connection to the local area.

Our Independent Living developments are tailored to the needs of older people who want to live in their own home and in the heart of a community, but with the peace of mind of onsite care and support 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This includes older couples, even if only one of the partners requires extra care.

Amongst the specialist facilities included are double access wet-rooms in all apartments, lifts, generous shared spaces and sprinklers throughout.

Independent living differs from residential or nursing care, which is for more acute needs.

LANDSCAPING

The current proposals include provision for new landscaped public realm and open space. This includes green landscaping to the south of the site. Spaces to sit and gather with informal play features would also be created within an east to west internal street. The vision is to ensure the site is permeable, accessible, and integrated within the local area and existing community.

FAMILY HOMES

Our current plans include provision for approx. 64 conventional homes. The proposed housing mix will be designed to help meet the needs of the local area and currently includes a range of one to four bedroom apartments and detached, semi-detached, and terraced houses.

The proposed green infrastructure of the site is shown in the image below.

  • Green links through the site connecting existing southern and western corridors

  • Permeability through the development with associated green pockets creating wildlife corridors as safe and food-rich routes

  • Connection to existing green spaces beyond the site’s boundaries

  • Strong internal north-south and east-west links to enable residents’ easy access to the southern open

  • space as well as existing spaces to the north, east and west

  • Landscaped to offer multi-functional spaces for residents to relax, play and congregate

  • Sustainable planting design suited to dry conditions in the area

  • Planting to provide rich nectar banks for bees and other insects and habitats for wildlife
